RESUMO 

Nos últimos 10 anos notamos um aumento substancial da aquisição de 

animais de companhia, principalmente de cães e gatos na área urbana. Este 

estreitamento na relação homem-animal pode ser muito bom, porém se não 

tomarmos alguns cuidados no tratamento e na posse desses animais esta 

relação pode se tornar um perigo. É evidenciado hoje em dia um aquecimento 

no mercado pet shop, mas isto não serve como parâmetro real se a 

preocupação dos proprietários com o bem estar de seus animais também 

aumentou nos últimos anos. Assim o presente trabalho teve por objetivo por 

meio da aplicação de um questionário epidemiológico, os cuidados que os 

proprietários tem com seus cães e gatos e os motivos que levaram adquiri-los 

no município de Garça – SP. De 242 casas visitadas 160 (66,12%) possuiam 

animais de estimação, onde tivemos 180 (87,80%) cães e 25 (12,20%) gatos 

totalizando 250 animais nestas 160 casas. Notamos que a grande maioria de 

proprietários adquiriram seus animais com a finalidade de companhia e assim a 

grande maioria se preocupa em dar uma devida atenção a eles.

ABSTRACT 

In last the 10 years we notice a substantial increase of the acquisition of 

company animals, mainly of dogs and cats in the urban area. This nip in the 

relation man-animal can very be good, however if not to take some cares in the 

treatment and the ownership of these animals this relation can become a 

danger. Pet is evidenced nowadays a heating in the market shop, but this does 

not serve as real parameter if the concern of the proprietors with the welfare of 

its animals also increased in the last years. Thus the present work had for 

objective by means of the application of a questionnaire epidemiologist, the 

cares that the proprietors has with its dogs and cats and the reasons that had 

taken adquiriz them in the city of Garça – SP. Of 242 visited houses 160 (66,12%) they possessed esteem animals, where we had 180 (87,80%) dogs 

and 25 (12,20%) cats totalizing 250 animals in these 160 houses. We notice 

that the great majority of proprietors had acquired its animals with the company 

purpose and thus the great majority if it worries in giving to one due attention 

they.
